I don't get Computer magazine, but it sounds like an interesting article. As we have discussed before, the bottlenecks tend to move back to the I/O bus when we approach gigabit speeds. (Whether that is Gigabit Ethernet or Fibre Channel.) I've found that it is helpful to increase the file size when benchmarking. This makes it easier to gauge the effects of contention on the network.
