Is the DRAM ramp-up on????

pubs.cmpnet.com

Excerpt from EE Times:

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (Seoul, South Korea) announced that it had sent samples of its second-generation 256-Mbit DRAM to several of the largest U.S. computer makers. The samples were made at 0.18-micron design rules.(snip)

Separately, Japan's largest business daily, Nihon Keizai Shimbun, reported that Hyundai Electronics Industries Co. Ltd. (Seoul) would resume construction of its fabrication facility in Scotland, which had been put on hold after South Korea's economic crash late last year. The company will make 256-Mbit DRAMs on 12-inch wafers at the facility, according to the report. Hyundai officials were not available for comment.

Hitachi Ltd., Toshiba Corp. and other Japanese companies could begin 256-Mbit DRAM sampling late this year,
with commercial production to begin in mid-1999. (snip)

"Many of the DRAM vendors want to get into the 256-Mbit generation as quickly as possible, because the 64-Mbit generation is just not profitable at all at today's prices," Suzuki said.(snip)

AND

International Data Corp. forecasts a $200 million market for 256-Mbit DRAMs in 1999, increasing to $880 million in 2000 and growing quickly thereafter to $9.4 billion in 2001, said Akira Minamikawa, senior semiconductor analyst at IDC Japan.

Gottfried, >And those waiting to buy much cheaper may just be disappointed. It doesn't help to bemoan the market's lack of reason. We're probably better off watching the charts than monitoring every announcement on Yahoo.<

I agree with you assessment. I ask myself, "What is the downside risk vrs the upside reward." At 36 3/4 AMAT, IMO, has good potential reward. I am over 100% invested including margin based on my purchase in 10/96 and waiting for $100+. With additional cash I now have available I will purchase additional AMAT.

The question is, What will happen to the stock when earnings comes out this week. From the TA charts it could pop to $40+ on good earning. Then, again it could break down and break the bull support line on poor earning and conference call.

The TA charts do look positive with a double top at $39 and potential triple top. It probably depends on how much was able to cut cost in relation to sales?

Anyone want to place bets?

Big Bucks, what are your thoughts?

Just my opinions.
