Rank of positions will depend on the size of the warship, but here's my thoughts:

Commanding Officer: Captain
Executive Officer: Commander
Navigator: Commander or Lt. Commander
Other Dept. Heads: Lt. Commander or Lieutenant
Division Officers: Lieutenant, Lieutenant Junior Grade & Ensign

(typically, multiple divisions make up a department)

Beggin' the Capn's pardon Sir, but couldn't he be the ship's Astrologer who practices a bit of voodoo
and cartography on the side?

Sure would like to see some daily updates on the alignment of Constellation DGIVer
and the market's major zodiac indicators. (not that I believe in any of that stuff!<g>)

Reporting for duty sir. I accept my postion great honor and will do my best to serve my shipmates. As for the voo-doo sir, I'll try to keep the chicken feathers from flying around the deck. BTW: Anyone seen my tarot cards? <ggg>
