Now is that still true? 3-4 years ago I would have said unqualified yes. Now I actually think they are doing quite well operationally. For instance GMR heads in hard drives, growing market share in hard drives, stock in AMD goes up when there is a rumor that IBM will do the production (& other rumors!), IDTI outsourcing to IBM (?), std. cell growth rate...

I think the IBM Micro area in IBM is a true growth engine for them (not as much as services but very good nonetheless).

Of course IBM is IBM and you are right their mgt. may screw up. But I think Louis and his Merry Men made mgt. a bit more horizontal sometime ago. Though I am not sure.
