Levin Defends 1080i HDTV Plans
Atlanta -- Time Warner Inc. chairman Gerald Levin last week reiterated the company's intent to distribute high-definition television with the 1080-interlace format criticized by Tele-Communications Inc. chairman and CEO John Malone.

Levin said Home Box Office and eventually the Turner networks will be distributed in 1080i. "We're building an infrastructure now that can carry high-definition television," he said.

A Cablevision Systems Corp. spokesman also said the company plans to transmit Madison Square Garden Network in 1080i.
