[N+I Part III] (Note to Part I: I forgot to mention that CSI's new Quick Term (TM) fiber connectors sales revenue is increasing at >100% and are scaling up mfg. facilities to meet even greater demand.) -Went over to Foundry Networks and spoke with very knowledgeable rep regarding Gigbit Alliance and the issuing of a Standard. (Believe that there was discussion earlier about MRVC's participation in the Alliance. They are a participating member with Yedriel Kurtz as MRVC's delegate:http://www.gigabit-ethernet.org/alliance/membership/participating.html. Also, if I recall, it cost $10K to become a founding member and MRVC passed.) Anyway were almost there. The April draft 4.2 of IEEE 802.3z came back with only 2 minor comments and the Foundry rep believed that they would easily be addressed with a target formal ratification of June 15th. Now those customers waiting for standards ratification can sign on the dotted line! As it now stands the distance for 1000base-LX multi-mode fiber is 500m. and 1000base -LX single mode is at 5Km. For those interested in this boring topic see:http://www.gigabit-ethernet.org/technology/overview/status.html#answer10 . The point: On the back of the Nbase T-shirt is written "Don't Gamble With Your Network! (Gambling graphic) Nbase: The Winning Solution, 10/100/1000Mbps, 110 Kilometers , From the Pioneer of Gigabit" . How's that for bravado form our non-hyping MRVC! -Also viewed Foundry's BigIron (8 port) 4000 GE switch at $3995 and their TurboIron (64Gbps, 8 ports) for $9,995. MRVC's new GFS3012 GE switch (12 port, 8Gbps, layer 3 and direst IP) at about $2,400 has excellent price/performance. -Went back to Xyplex and viewed their video presentation to get free Xyplex T-shirt (like my T-shirts<g>). Their presentation was superior to other exhibitors with excellent editing and scripting integrating both Xyplex and Nbase products. (I just have the impression that beside the Xyplex sales force, engineers, patents, Edgeblaster, etc., MRVC acquired a company with marketing acumen and a brand name more well known than Nbase.) End of Part 3
