mark, cmsi is really the only company in this field--they have a long history in the hypothermic field--they had a sort of spin-off company called biotime(BTIM) that split in 1992, but they still hve liscensing agreements on hypothermic blood solutions. their forte in this relationship is knowledge of cryobiology. they hve been struggling waiting for medicare insurnce coverage on their cryodevice. recent findings on cell death and apoptosis (by john baust, cmsi's chief science officer) have led to resurgnce of cryosurgery---seems that that cryo attacks cancer in the same way as angiogenisis (enmd) except it uses the water in thecells rather than blood, ie. angiostaten and endostaten-------new developments require <-200c to insure complete cell death, hence the need for img's technology. also, cmsi really only made prototypes and needs a manufacturer to produce cryosystems,---other competitors dont even come close to cmsi in r&d and proprietary knowledge---cmsi's history and development probably goes back to nazi germany experaments on organ transplantion and preservations..they have recently received a patent on a blood solution that they plan on testing, it is a byproduct for cancer r&d--if they know how to kill cells , then they know how to keep them alive (hypothermic preservation). yes i own the stock (80,000) and have since 1992, when it was trading at $9 and have never flinched conscerning their products....take a close look at their earnings to be released in a few days---see www.cryomedical.com
