Sorry Thomas, I did misunderstand. I just wanted some clarification of what was said. My guess is she spoke mainly to the American auto co's who have never been at the forefront of environmentally friendly cars and who would rather spend their time fighting regulations than doing something about global warming. I think it's difficult for Americans to believe that anything other than an American technology might win the day, the old Not Invented Here bias.

There is no question that cars are further out in the commercialization calendar than stationary power, portable power, bus engines etc. We have to consider that revenues will come from these before autos hit the road. Daimler will be making a production decision when they have a production prototype in 1999, this has been the timeframe all along. However it is reasonable to suggest that with what is known about what must be done at this point, plus the commitment of significant dollars and resources, setting up subsidiaries etc., that the result will be positive.

FWIW

Hi Thomas,

Whether we like it or not, Kathryn M. Welling has an excellent reputation in the USA and her column commands a lot of attention, rightly or wrongly.

Do not be surprised if Ballard takes a hit of 10 or 20 points, before 11:00am on Monday morning.
