Rocky,

>>Sony will be launching an external version of the drive in Q3 this year.<<

wn.newscom-asia.com

Ooops!...Looks like Sony's shipping date has been delayed once again.

First it was Spring 98, then it was July 98. Now it's sometime in Q3 (ie 9/98). Next stop: "Sometime" in 1999.

Philip

Make up your mind..this or that? I am sure millions of customers will switch back and forth between this vaporware. Also, who was it that thought the LASERDISK would be hot??? IOM first to market wins. That is a natural law. Game over

RR, thanks for the link. It gives some good information about the competition.

>>Sony HiFi News

wn.newscom-asia.com;

However, I can't understand Sony's claim: "Designed to compete with the LS-120 and Zip drives, Sony's HiFD is a bridge between existing floppy disks and rewritable CD-ROMs, thus protecting users' investments."

How will HiFUD act as a bridge? Will it also be able to read/write to CD-ROMs too? Sure it will.
