[HAYES] Cowles on the Y2k book of Ulrich and Hayes

Rick Cowles: 'He co-authored "The Year 2000 Software Crisis - Challenge of the Century" (1997) and "The Year 2000 Software Crisis - The Continuing Challenge" (1998) with William Ulrich

I fully agree with Rick. I have read this book summer 1997 from front to end and backwards, so to speak. Still use it to get new ideas; or to check things. It gives the Y2k project manager a lot of backing is setting up and carrying out Y2k projects.

It goes into great (technical) depth. It explains in detail what functions have to be filled in a Y2k project team.

It goes into great detail about migration strategies; all business relations involved (e.g. software/outsourcing vendos; suppliers; government; data suppliers; purchasing departments etc)

Y2k budgetting; enterprise Y2k strategy; Implementation strategies; validation strategies are dealt with in great depth.

The huge complications in enterprise level Y2k projects can best be grasped by reading this book. Think of configuration managmenet; change management; building a test environment.

The need of a Y2k project office is discussed. Common mistakes are presented. The all importance of executive support is shown.

...and much much more.

My definite number one book on Y2k!

ISBN 0-13-655664-7; Prentice-Hall; 'Yourdon Press Computing Series'

(sounds like a sales pitch ;-) but I really mean it!)

John

He co-authored "The Year 2000 Software Crisis - Challenge of the Century"
(1997) and "The Year 2000 Software Crisis - The Continuing Challenge"
(1998) with William Ulrich. IMHO, the first book is *the definitive book*
on Y2k project management (and has been at or near the top of all Y2k books
in sales at deJager's site).
