PNEC "In total, the company owns or has licenses to over 15,000 master recordings."

Does this mean they also own the publishing rights? I tend to doubt it. "Ownersip" of a master recording only gives them the right to package and sell it. It gives them NO royalty income from either publishing or performance royalties.

Personally, I would MUCH rather own the publishers and performers share of royalties, as that would guarantee income for every sale, and public performance of each piece of music , with NO overhead...

As a writer, I sell the licensing rights to my music to TV networks, and production houses. They in turn go through all the expense of manufacturing and distribution. When any of my music is performed (broadcast on radio or tv) I get $$$ from ASCAP and/or BMI. This is how I make my living now. I get paid up front AND later... Believe me, making records is more glamorous, but there are long lines of people with their hands out taking percentages...

The real money is in publishing. They may "own" all those recordings, but all that means, basically, is that they can manufacture or otherwise distribute them, and pay the writers and publishers royalties. Anything left, becomes their net. The only ones guaranteed to make money are the artists and their publishing companies...

STILL, having said all this... I believe my last post was basically optimistic concerning PNEC. I have been keeping my eye on it since TokyoMexx mentioned it, and I think at the right time, I will get in...

Apparently I haven't dug as deeply into their financials as you, it might be worth pursuing the status of their actual "ownership" of the recordings....

Are these recordings sought after? Are they Masters of a bunch of "b" sides no one cares about? Do they in fact have any Publishing interests? What is the actual projected demographic (fan base)? A lot of these artists are not exactly current or popular....

If you really poke around, you might dig up something that makes this one irresistable (or you may find the awful truth) These are issues that I would like to see answered before I plunked down a sizable chunk of money...

cheers
