METRICOM NAMES NEW PRESIDENT AND CEO; TIMOTHY A.
DREISBACH TO LEAD COMPANY THROUGH NATIONAL DEPLOYMENT
OF REVOLUTIONARY WIRELESS DATA NETWORK

LOS GATOS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 11, 1998--Metricom, Inc.
(NASDAQ:MCOM.O) today announced the appointment of Timothy A. Dreisbach
as president and chief executive officer. Dreisbach will
take over from Robert Dilworth, who remains chairman of the board.
Dreisbach brings over 25 years of high technology and management
experience to the position, most recently as president and CEO of
Premenos Technology Corp. His appointment concludes a comprehensive
search led by Metricom's largest investor, Vulcan Ventures Inc.
Metricom is a leading provider of wireless data network and Internet
access services.
"With Tim Dreisbach, we were pleased to find a seasoned leader with
critical experience in the technology sector," said William Savoy,
president of Vulcan Ventures. "Dreisbach brings proven credibility
to the opportunity that Metricom has identified. Now Metricom can
begin to deliver against its promise of a high-speed, national,
wireless data network."
"Metricom has already redefined what it means to be connected,"
said Dreisbach. "The Ricochet wireless service has out-performed all
of its competitors and with an even higher speed system in
development, we are uniquely positioned to be the leader in wireless
information-access solutions. I'm excited to have the opportunity to
lead this innovative company in our mission to make high-speed
wireless access ubiquitous."
Prior to joining Metricom, Dreisbach served as president and CEO of
Premenos Technology Corp., a $40 million supplier of software and
services for business-to-business electronic commerce. There he
successfully returned Premenos to profitability, and assisted in the
company's recent merger with Harbinger Corp., one of the nation's
leading providers of single source electronic commerce and EDI
solutions. He previously served five years as senior vice president
for North American Sales and Service at Boole & Babbage, a $200
million provider of enterprise systems management software, and was a
founding officer of Legent Corporation. Dreisbach has over 25 years
of management and high-tech experience, an undergraduate degree from
Dartmouth College, and a graduate degree from UCLA's School of
Engineering and Applied Science.
Vulcan Ventures Inc., of Bellevue, Washington, led the search for
Dreisbach's position. Vulcan acquired approximately 49% of Metricom
in January 1998. Vulcan Ventures is the investment organization of
Paul G. Allen.
