I'm not sure increasing market share will work without a strong media blitz.

Correctomundo. Even with the few Apple ads that came out, they only played for few nights (on primetime) and then off they were to local markets so quickly. I really hope Apple keeps the TV advertising coming. It's very effective.

As for the software side, I used to believe that Rhapsody could shake up the market
all by itself. I don't believe that anymore. Without partners, the initial releases of
Rhapsody will likely be compared to OS2 or of course Next and will be dismissed by
the street. Especially since the initial releases are probably going to have a more
difficult interface that average users want. Without partners, and given it's relatively
difficult interface critics will be able to hammer it into oblivion. At least for the next
year or so.

I've not heard of any "difficulty" in using the Rhapsody UI, and latest word is that engineers are hard at work making the first customer release substantially more Mac-like than either DR1 or DR2. The Mac OS is the consumer operating system and will be for some time to come, so only power users will be wanting the first releases of Rhapsody anyhow.

My understanding is that Rhapsody and the Mac OS are converging to a common code base, with each release of the Mac OS becoming more robust and adopting more advanced features like protected memory, multitasking and multithreading.

I guess we'll find out for sure tomorrow.
