Compaq ships inkjet printers in an effort to re-enter market

After a failed attempt to build computer printers for businesses five years ago, Compaq Computer Corp. is jumping into the market again with consumer-targeted products.

The new printers are the first product of a newly formed peripherals group in Compaq's consumer division. Mr. Schrock said Compaq aims to build a $1 billion business in consumer printers in the next four to five years. "We believe we can reach a sales level that will put us in a profitable position quickly," he said.
