The reason for the breakup is that T's competitors
(RBOC, GTE, MCI, Worldcom, Sprint, British Telecom,
. . .) do not want to buy equipment from one of
their largest competitors. LU can now sell to
anyone without them feeling as if they are helping
the enemy. It also made it a pure tech/equipment
play. It has opened them to a more competitive/agressive
management style and unlocked some hidden value(the rest
has come from the new sales, merger, and split.)
