Alex, are you really saying that meat eaters are frowned on in Europe? Is there a radical vegetarian movement there that I haven't heard of, or something? When I think of Europe I think of pate foie gras and veal, two meat products created with tremendous cruelty for the poor animals. And I think of Janice, stridently carnivorous and rallying all the meat eaters of northern Italy to support the cause, fervidly.

While I have a secret wish that meat eating will become culturally unacceptable, this is the kind of thing that needs to happen voluntarily, over time, as consciousnesses are raised. Of course, my main concerns besides the contentment of darling, frolicking lambs and chickies and calves, are the issues of cow flatulence ruining the universe, and agricultural runoff killing us all, one by one.

Was there ever a pluralistic ideal in Europe, incidentally?
