Pre-Earnings Trades on Uptrending Stocks....
I noticed today that most of the nasdaq stocks deteriorated on 'watch lists' but the earnings plays held their own BEFORE the earnings actually came out. Note that when the earnings do come out (i.e. ERTS case in point).. The good report doesn't always transcend the vagaries of the market, at least not if the market tanks that day. I think that "anticipatory upswing" is a result of traders' interest and expectation of a good report. They are willing to establish new positions with the expectation that a strong upward trend would ensue following a good report. It is like a 'self-fulfilling prophecy'. That is, the stock is moving in upward direction due to the involvement of new traders putting on new positions (i.e. in WFMI,FGCI,WND or PSUN). Whether or not the report is good is not relevant at this moment, just make the trade in the direction the stock is taking.
