Exactly, try to figure out a way to develop a better products, not to
use the government to help you to compete. Considering the gigantic
mergers that are happening, the DOJ should spend its time looking at
these mergers rather than going after a successful company that is in
a competitive industry. It is ridiculous that some state attorney
general are jumping on the bandwagon while not spending their time
to fight real crime on the street. I guess these lawyers are just
trying to look for a windfall as in the tobacco cases. The problem
is, in the case of MSFT, they are doing at the expense of hurting
the economy. If the launch of Win98 is get delayed and we get a
recession, we should throw all these guys out of the state offices in
the next election !

RE: " What I would like to hear is not how screwed up and unfair MSFT is, but how can the other players compete more effectively."

That is a good point. How other players can compete effectively, supposing that they very well can, would be an excellent point for Microsoft to focus upon as a defense in dealings with regulators and the courts.

The entire situation may hinge on just how effectively other players can compete.

Has anyone heard anything along these lines?

PS: I would expect a flood of leaks all through the week as we approach Thursday. Just imagine, the heady drama of high stakes brinksmanship played before our very eyes by the grand masters of our time! Who will be the first to blink?
