Summa Industries and Subsidiary KVP Falcon Win
Appeal

TORRANCE, Calif., May 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Summa Industries (Nasdaq: SUMX - news) today
announced that the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has affirmed in its entirety
a previously rendered federal district court decision in the matter of Laitram Corporation, et al v.
KVP Systems, et al (U.S. District Court, Eastern District of California) which held that the KVP
products in question do not infringe on Plaintiffs' patents in any manner. Also affirmed were the
district court decisions that Plaintiffs' patents are valid and KVP's counterclaims are dismissed. Both
sides have a limited amount of time to petition for rehearing, consideration en banc and/or review by
the U.S. Supreme Court.

''We are pleased with the outcome of this lengthy and, in our view, unnecessary litigation. Although
we have always been confident that this matter would be resolved in our favor, it is gratifying to have
the appellate court confirm our position,'' stated Eric K. Palmaer, President of Summa Industries
subsidiary, KVP Falcon Plastic Belting, Inc. (formerly KVP Systems, Inc.).
