John -

Popular federal services such as Medicare and Social Security Administration may suffer severe disruptions in 2000 because independent contractors and the government's check-writing service will not be ready for the date change, the General Accounting Office said last week.

Hold it!! Reality check!

There is a perfectly simple workaround for check writing organizations such as SSA... just remount last week's tape & print up a fresh batch of checks. The fact that checks of this sort aren't even printed anymore makes it all the easier.

So you mis-write some checks... who's going to notice. Remember, this only needs to be "close enough for government work."

So let's stop worrying about payments ceasing from the Federal Govt and get on with the serious work.
