Thanks, Tom, for url'ing the food safety report. I am always very suspicious of produce from Central and South America, because they use pesticides that have been outlawed here in California, and if I recall correctly, they use them excessively sometimes. Buying organic produce at farmers' markets, which obviously has been grown in your area and is therefore fresher as well, is a really good way to escape the dangers of imported fruits and vegetables.

Incidentally, on a related topic, the Department of Agriculture has announced that its new organic growers' guidelines will not allow irradiation, sewage sludge fertilizer, or bioengineering. They got something like 28,000 thousand letters of complaint!!!
