Having purchased my last five boxes from Micron, and having been
long a lot of Micron stock, it was with reluctance that I ordered a Dell box on Friday after determining that Micron was about $300 higher
for about the same spec. On Saturday morning I just happened to visit the MicronPC website and saw a banner about $300 off their prices. So I called, checked, verified, ordered and cancelled my Dell order. The rep quoted 7 days for shipment (Dell quoted 11 business days). This was on Saturday.
Today I was informed my system (400 chip, 128 ram, SCSI dd, Real3D video card) shipped!!! A grand total of 2 days after order. Needless to say I was pleased with the turn of events vis-a-vis the new box, but the anecdote may not be bullish for the stock price short term.
My guess is that the quarter has been tough, a lot of good work has been done, but more is needed. I look for disappointing top and bottom line this quarter (compared with possibly unreasonable expectations for a turnaround). Combine that with a tired bull market, and it looks to me like a bit of a difficult stretch for the stock, but possibly a good time to accumulate.
