Regarding E-trade <info at least 6 months old> one of the biggest lowdown they used to blow on people is to do things like what you described today. They would cancel order or make purchase for you after you cancel, and they would only inform you the day after! Are you sure they have improved? Regarding Datek, I'm glad they are not a publicly traded company or their stock price could have been cut by 30%. I have never made a withdrawal request but according to the Datek thread this has improved since they moved to NJ. Anyway, for a more steady discount broker, I would recommend Waterhouse or DLJ. Waterhouse is a no-no for daytrading but great for entering orders before/after market open. During the day one can call their local branch to alter the order anyway you want and they still charge $12. The drillers are not in good shape from today's lackluster performance. I'm afraid they may tank further before a technical rebound occurs. I can say that especially for the land drillers. Ain't looking good for them. NBR is a good short at this price. UTI is still being supported by the mo-mo. But if they decide to dump, UTI can fall back to $15. We are at the right side of the U for OSX. For selected drillers like RIG, they may even have reached the upside of the U in the latest high for technical argument sake. Are we going to see W? With OPEC meeting in June which is one month away, the second U would have to be a quickie, unless the overall market also tank in about a month and we are in the correction phase through next earning season. Hard to call at this time. Regarding buying at the open - it is a NO NO. Been there too many times and got burned at least 75% of the time. A better time to buy in the morning is to wait 30 minute to see how the earning morning action goes. If it falls, stay away. If it rises steadily without much profit taking with strong news that have not been taken into the stock price, then enter but expect a reversal. Most of the time however, it is a bad idea.
