i am one of those market professionals-and sorry u have to register the short sale at time of sale-securities law. while sometimes people claim "forgetfulness" when they fail to do so, this all comes into light when they have to deliver the stock they r short. this is what gets reported. u cannot fail to report or u will fail to deliver which will cause u to get bought in thus no longer short. in the u.s., failure to report shorts is taken even more seriously-the dealer could lose his liscence and the investor his investment rights. sorry but those r the facts. people manipulate on the short side in order to sell on down ticks, but they cant fail to eventually report as they have to fulfill the obligation of the trade by delivering the stock.

as for the explanation of derivatives and gold hedging, my previous comments hold. but promote a way.....
