Jim, I don't think your desires are inconsistent with Apple's strategy as I see it. Consider:

1. There's no reason why MacOS X can't run on any hardware platform to which Mach can be ported. Apple has not said that it *will* be ported to other platforms; then again, it hasn't said that it *won't* either. Seems to me they're being deliberately cagey on this. Keep in mind, though, that MacOS X will have a Unix core.

2. With or without MacOS X and Mach, the YB APIs already *do* run on a variety of OS platforms. At the very least, Apple has in the past committed to keeping YB APIs current for Windows *and* allowing developers to those APIs for free. These APIs could very easily be ported to any flavor of Unix, and bet that we will see them *at least* on Solaris.
