it bottomed out in july-everything did-it was a disaster- but it did not make a substantial move until november-30-38 or something in one day -that was a month after book to bill finally broke 1. You could have still bought amat under 15 in september and october and november . the current book to bill is .80. also, if you look at just 1995 amat announced in march it plans to increase its staff by 43% and amat stated that they saw japan orders and the pentium fueling 40% revenue growth for the year. i don't see book to bill breaking 1 until second or third quarter 1999.

i suspect amat will predicts rosy future... earnings may not be rosy but future might be.
