First, RDRT is paying a lot for these 2 experts. I hope they are getting the required returned on investment.

Second, >> RDRT dominated 2.1 << IBM wasn't in the Head business yet. As for Quantum, they now buy from the Japanese because MKE makes the manufacturing decisions. I would be surprise to see if QNTM buy any significant number of heads from a US supplier. It would be a coup for a US supplier if a Japanese disk drive maker buy from them.

Yes, you are right, basically it all depends on technology. If WD was at a disadvantage to SEG/QNTM then it may not be with anymore with the IBM deal. Then would it not be possible for WD to now gain share from SEG and QNTM. In this scenario, RDRT would be the loser since WD is buying most of the heads from IBM and SEG/QNTM needs to buy less due to selling less drives.

Happy Investing

Stud,

<< HOWEVER, THE 3.4 GAME IS WIDE OPEN. STITCH - DON'T YOU AGREE THAT THE FIRST TO QUAL IS TYPICALLY THE RECIPIENT OF THE MOST BUSINESS.>>

I heard this all the way up to the highlands where I have been playing golf in cooler weather. To answer, I think first to market is very important. A recent example is Maxtor's performance in this regard. I think if RDRT quals on the next program at Maxtor it will be very very good for them. I am just not willing to place a bet on it. Thats all.

Hype? What hype?
