I didn't think this was worth mentioning when I saw it yesterday, but it is soooo slow here today that I'll stretch and call this relevant. Here is some Brocade news.

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 11, 1998--

Winners Credit QAD's Industry Focus for Fast Implementations,

and MFG/PRO's Flexible, Comprehensive Functionality for Improved

Operations

QAD (Nasdaq:QADI), a leader in supply chain-enabled ERP software that delivers the fastest implementations, Monday announced the winners of its 1998 "Rapid Achiever Awards" for the Americas and Europe.

QAD presents this award to recognize companies that achieve exceptionally fast implementation as well as significant operational results with QAD MFG/PRO enterprise-resource-planning (ERP) software. QAD's average implementation time of four months is already the fastest in the industry -- as much as 450 percent faster than competitors.

The five 1998 Rapid Achiever Award winners are: Brocade Communications Systems Inc., San Jose, Calif.; Genzyme Corp., Cambridge, Mass.; Korado a.s., Czech Republic; Quaker Brazil Ltd., Sao Paulo, Brazil; and Peregrine Inc., Southfield, Mich. Awards are bestowed at Explore Chicago '98, the QAD User Conference, held May 11-13.

Asia-Pacific award winners were announced in March at Explore Bangkok '98.

"These awards honor significant achievements by our customers, often under difficult circumstances," said Pamela Lopker, chairman and president of QAD.

"By choosing MFG/PRO, our customers gain the quickest implementation in the industry and the fastest route to quantifiable benefits. QAD's distributed architecture and industry-tailored solutions pay off rapidly for our customers in shorter cycle times, greater control, better customer service, lower inventory requirements, and Year-2000 readiness. We're proud to recognize such forward-looking companies with these awards."

1998 Rapid Achiever Award Winners

The five winners of QAD's 1998 Rapid Achiever Award for the Americas and Europe represent a broad range of businesses and locales, from a Silicon Valley start-up to a chocolate plant in Brazil:

-- Brocade Communications Systems Inc., San Jose, Calif. -- This 2-year-old company already leads the networking industry in storage-area-network (SAN) gigabit switches. To support rapid growth, the company needed to replace its nonscalable ERP system, and to integrate disparate applications running off-line. "We chose QAD because of its short implementation cycle time and the breadth of business processes supported by QAD," said Carl Lee, Brocade's chief financial officer. "Although Brocade Communications is a start-up, it is on the fast-track with a 300 to 400 percent growth in revenue in 1998. At that pace we couldn't afford to wait 12 months to implement many of the other ERP systems. MFG/PRO replaced our current system in three months, one month sooner than originally planned. Excellent consulting support from Ernst & Young, L.L.P., helped us achieve the short implementation time." With MFG/PRO, Brocade integrated its sales orders, inventory control, shipping and receiving, manufacturing, and purchasing functions. Barely one month after implementation, MFG/PRO already has accelerated the order cycle time and shortened Brocade's month-end close.

-- Genzyme Corp., Cambridge, Mass. -- A highly diversified company providing 900 human-health-care products and services, Genzyme operates in more than 40 cities in 19 countries. The company chose QAD because of its global presence, supplier stability, customer references and expertise in the medical industry. In addition, MFG/PRO met Genzyme's specific needs with its tailored functionality, Y2K capability, supply-chain-management features and ability to run in a manufacturing-resource-planning (MRP) environment. Genzyme's 5-1/2-month implementation of MFG/PRO included complete validation in support of the medical industry's cGMP guidelines. MFG/PRO now provides Genzyme employees with real-time data from a single, easy-to-access source. Results include better inventory accuracy (improved to greater than 99 percent), bill-of-materials (BOM) accuracy, customer service, on-time production and supplier performance.

-- Korado a.s., Czech Republic -- This manufacturer of radiators in Eastern Europe recently implemented MFG/PRO -- including accounting, purchasing, sales and warehouse-management functionality -- for 128 users in just three months. And this implementation took place in the midst of a variety of companywide changes: a rapid increase in production (the company doubled its output in 18 months); expansion into international markets; construction of a new production facility; integration of new sales channels; and adapting to international standard audits requirements.

-- Quaker Brazil Ltd., Sao Paulo, Brazil -- A chocolate manufacturer in the Quaker Oats family of companies, Quaker Brazil implemented MFG/PRO in only four months. Early benefits include a reduction in paperwork of 70 percent, a 60 percent increase in available information in just 20 percent of the time, and reduced process times throughout its operations. With MFG/PRO, Quaker Brazil also has boosted the reliability of its inventory controls while improving production control and streamlining the process for receiving materials. "We chose MFG/PRO because QAD is the technology leader, its integrated systems will run in our open client/server architecture and allow us to phase out proprietary systems, and MFG/PRO offered us the best features and price," said Alexandre Garcia, systems manager for Quaker Brazil. "For the future, QAD's worldwide locations and support means MFG/PRO offers us a model for worldwide, integrated information systems."

-- Peregrine Inc., Southfield, Mich. -- Formed by the purchase of four General Motors automotive-parts plants, all more than 1 million square feet in size, Peregrine needed a large-scale, yet very fast MFG/PRO implementation. The company was able to meet a self-imposed six-month schedule for migrating off the 520 GM applications it was using. Peregrine successfully implemented MFG/PRO across five sites within five months, while also completely rebuilding its technical infrastructure, including LAN and WAN networks. Besides implementation speed, the company selected MFG/PRO for the scalability of its architecture and its cohesive bundling with third-party software. Peregrine is using MFG/PRO to streamline shipping capabilities and tighten the company's control over inventory management, supplier scheduling, customer deliveries, capacity planning and production scheduling.
