SanDisk Enters Japanese Retail Market With CompactFlash Memory
Cards and New ImageMate Reader/Writer

SanDisk Adds Office and Expands Sales Team in Japan

TOKYO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 12, 1998--SanDisk Corp. (NASDAQ:SNDK - news) announced today that it has
entered the Japanese retail market with SanDisk branded CompactFlash(TM) (CF(TM)) memory cards and its new
ImageMate(TM) external CF drive.

The move, aimed to provide more after-market support for the CF standard, is sparked by SanDisk's commitment to CF as an
open and global standard.

To support the new retail efforts, SanDisk has expanded its sales team and opened a new sales office in Osaka, Japan.

Mr. Seiki Takahashi has been named SanDisk's senior retail sales manager for Japan. Takahashi, based in Osaka, has over 10
years experience in the Japanese retail market with Epson Hanbai and Compaq.

Richard Troutte, president of SanDisk's wholly-owned SanDisk K.K subsidiary in Yokohama, Japan, said, ''We are pleased
to offer the SanDisk ImageMate CompactFlash reader/writer to the Japanese retail market. The award winning ImageMate is
the perfect solution to transfer images, data and audio from mobile devices to the desktop PC and has won overwhelming
consumer acceptance in the United States. As many more CF-based products will go on sale, we expect the CF card market
to rapidly expand.''

SanDisk's CompactFlash memory cards are also sold at retail in Japan under the brand names of major OEM companies.

Eli Harari, SanDisk's president and CEO, said, ''CompactFlash has become a global storage standard for small mobile
devices. SanDisk is committed to continue its promotion of CF as an open standard, and our presence in the retail market
satisfies OEM demands that SanDisk develop more after-market support for CompactFlash.''

Harari also stressed that ''the CompactFlash market is much more universal than just digital cameras. SanDisk offers CF for
the broader market including handheld PCs and digital audio recorders.''

SanDisk branded CompactFlash memory cards will be available at retail in Japan starting this month. Capacities will range
between 2 and 48MB.
