Advanced Fibre Communications Licenses DSL Lite Technology From Aware AFC's UMC 1000(R) 3GDLC(TM) Is First to Interoperate With x200 PETALUMA, Calif., May 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Advanced Fibre Communications, Inc.(R) (AFC) (Nasdaq: AFCI - news) announced today a licensing agreement with Aware Inc. [Nasdaq:AWRE - news] to deliver a DSL Lite solution. The licensing agreement will incorporate Aware's leading splitterless DSL Lite technology into AFC's DMT ADSL plug in for its UMC 1000 3GDLC(TM). The new DSL Lite accord coincides with the completion of interoperability testing for standard-compliant, full-rate ADSL between AFC's ADSL DMT line card and Aware's x200, making AFC's 3GDLC(TM) the first product to be compatible with Aware's x200 modem/router. AFC and Aware's cross-vendor solution is also believed to be the first example of DSL Lite interoperability based on Analog Devices' AD20msp910 chipset. The AFC/Aware solution will be jointly marketed to carriers. Both DSL Lite and full-rate ADSL implementations use the Analog Devices/Aware AD20msp910 ADSL chipset and are fully compatible with the entire installed base of UMC 1000 systems. DSL Lite is consistent with the goal of the Universal ADSL Work Group (UAWG) which is to propose a simplified version of ADSL which will deliver to consumers high-speed modem communications over existing phone lines based on an open interoperable International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Standard. Both Aware and AFC are members of the UAWG.
