I'm interested in how I might profit from a market decline in an IRA account. I'm pretty sure that I can't purchase naked puts on stocks or indexes. Please correct me if I'm wrong, and if you have any ideas, I'm all ears.

Depends on your broker - some will let you buy options. You could also buy a bearish mutual fund.

Or just switch to cash. No tax consequences to worry about.

Steve, I know you addressed TD, but I just wanted to mention that both Brown and Fidelity brokerages allow you to buy puts in your IRA.
