WF, the x2/Kflex battle was long ago settled in 3COM's favor as
tallied by Boardwatch Magazine and this "Tasty Bit":

tbtf.com

We have moved on to the next battle in the modem wars, the V.90
field of battle. The 10 largest national ISPs are well covered
by their previous choice of x2. Most Kflex oems are covered by
also selling x2 and will be quick pick up 3COM's V.90 should
the Flex upgraded V.90 flavor fail. I prefer that 3COM delay its
V.90 "horn tooting" for 6 months or so. This will allow a slow
ramp-up V.90 without stuffing channels. It became apparent to
me that 3COM has more V.90 business than inventory when last
week I upgraded my x2 to V.90 and was told I will have to wait
2 weeks for my new V.90 modem which is now on back order.

The V.90 battle will be a protracted engagement with the eventual
winner not declared until next year. From the above article:

"We would expect to see an almost implausible range of operating
performance from modems all purporting to be V.90 compatible.
We'll have a standard, but it won't be very standard with regard
to performance."
