PEGA, CHKPF were pretty easy because of the news that came out yesterday night. NO TECHNICAL ANALYSIS had a play in CHKPF <<9. CHKPF - CHECKPOINT SOFTWARE Price= 23.2.. Chart is not good, but some good news might propel this stock tomorrow. Check Point, which specializes in network security software, and Microsoft said in a statement they had expanded their two-year-old partnership "to provide unified policy-based management for global networks running Microsoft Windows NT." The move will speed up "the acceptance of Windows NT as the platform of choice for enterprise security.<<<>>>>" but PEGA was going to be a buy for me at 21 because of point and figure TRIPLE top breakout AND the great earnings report that I saw last night at 9:00 p.m. <<>>>10. PEGA - PEGA SYSTEMS Price= 20 15/32 PEGASYSTEMS at 21 will have a triple top point and figure breakout. Earnings came out at .07 cents an increase of 104.5%over the $1.0 million (or 3 cents per share, diluted) earned during the same period in 1997. Revenues for the quarter were $18.0 million, a 111.8% increase as compared to $8.5 million for the first quarter of 1997. "We have entered 1998 strongly, with excellent sales and revenue," said Pegasystems' President Alan Trefler. "In April, we had the opportunity to showcase new capabilities at our PegaVISION User Meeting, and received enthusiastic feedback on our technology, vision and customer relationships. We look forward to continuing to build a position of strength in both our new and established markets during the remainder of 1998." <<<<<>>>>>> I check the REUTERS every night for important news that might effect the stock the next day. That is why I included these 'news' stocks in my watch lists. This morning at 9:15, I knew these would be good but I was afraid the gap up would take it away. strategy: PEGA at 8:35 was being traded already. I didn't put in a buy order because I watched the prices first. 22 3/8 and 22 and 3/4. At 9:25 I put in an order for 1,000 shares a bit higher than 22 3/4.. which was 22 7/8. It went through quickly.. CHKPF: at 8:16 CHKPF was already trading at between 29 1/4 and 29 1/2.Since I knew the chart was horrid and that CHKPF had a rather good earnings report, I was waiting for a trend reversal anyhow. I put in my order at about 9:11.. Would have done it earlier but I was on the phone. It went through as well. When there is lots of pre-market activity on a stock with 'news' like a contract with microsoft or a great earnings report, I like to see what the price is. I was able to do the same thing with MSPG last week. Pre-market activity is great indicator of how the stock will trade at least in the first 1/2 hour of trading. You have to understand that the 'effect' of the news can be determined in this way. Most of my watch list did not have pre-market activity. WFMI had a bit of premarket volume but I know it was overbought after being up so much in the last few days.
