I once read that you could tell how well your child is developing compassion and an ability to nurture by how they treat their stuffed animals and dolls and pets. I think Michael would qualify as a pet of sorts, don't you?
It says a lot about you that Stephen has these positive emotions. Babies are not easy adjustments.

My brother used to hang his poor eyeless, hairless teddybear over the bannister in the front hall. When people came in the front door, there Teddy would be, swinging by a noose around his little neck, in front of them. I thought that was pretty sick behavior but my father thought it was funny and they never would get him the help I was sure he needed. He grew up to be a CPA.
