" US companies are on the verge of some spectacular breakthroughs and a lot of international money may be coming this way.

.... do we truly grasp what the Internet and microprocessor advances have done and more importantly what it will do for civilization.

Is this revolution more important than the industrial revolution?"

You are absolutely right. I am both puzzled and fascinated by the computer revolution. However, i might be older than you are, but my experience tells me the economic cycles are not dead. Please, be hedgy in your investments.

Best of luck to you and all readers of this thread.

Mike

Mary,
Thanks for the post; I couldn't agree more with your sentiments. The US market is not a bubble when looked at in comparison with alternative investment opportunities. Look at the outrageous returns on many of the European markets during the past 12 months. Technology has ramped up the competitiveness and productivity of US firms across the board, and as the Asian and European economies perk up there will be tremendous export opportunities opening up. I am fully invested in US technology stocks (with a smattering of health care, which is also technology driven in its own way) and am willing to bear with the occasional bumpiness. Good luck to all patient INTC longs.

Mary Cluney. Re: "Is this revolution more important than the industrial revolution? And, what will this mean to the economy? I'm not going to pretend I have any answers, but my intuition tells me
something major is happening in our lifetime."

For a pretty comprehensive view of the future and the impact of the microchip and technology I would suggest reading The Roaring 2000's by Harry S. Dent Jr. He compares the information revolution with the first information revolution...the invention of the printing press and shows how this new cycle will play out in our lifetime. Sample quote: "Think of computers as customized, personalized, multimedia printing presses." It's an excellent book.
