We're talking about well over 300 Million computers sold in this time frame (a very conservative estimate). Teac, one of Sony's partners, churns out 95 Million drives a year at present. If only part of this production were turned over to HiFi, the store shelves would be flooded with fast fast fast 200MB, Floppy compatible HiFi drives. Iomega Zip is by no means, "The Standard," no matter what brain-twists of logic Iomaniacs try to subject onto reality. >>Would your answer change if you had to significantly sacrifice speed for backward compatibility?<< Perhaps. But Sony's offering is faster than Zip, faster than LS-120. The question is moot.
