DJ: Year 2000 Wire/ Euro Currency Seminar Series Announced by SPG Conferences &
Expositions

NATICK, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 12, 1998--

New One-Day Seminar To Help IT Professionals Manage The Business and
Technical Impacts Of the New Currency Unit

SPG Conferences & Expositions today announced the launch of its "Euro
Seminar Series," a new series of in-depth seminars for organizations that
must convert their computer systems to support the new currency of the
European Monetary Union. The first seminar is scheduled for June 30, 1998 in
Chicago at the Chicago Marriott Downtown.
The one-day seminars, to be held in conjunction with SPG's acclaimed YEAR
2000 Conference & Expo, will explore the economic, political, and legal
facets of the currency-conversion challenge, in addition to in-depth
technical discussions. IT professionals, financial managers, legal
specialists, and software developers are just some of the people who can
benefit from the seminars.
Starting January 1, 1999, all European Monetary Union members will account,
report, and transact electronic and non-cash monetary transactions in euro
units. Hard currency is currently scheduled to be introduced January 1,
2002. The Gartner Group estimates that global businesses will spend between
$150-400 billion revamping their infrastructures and software to accommodate
the new currency. According to Bill Pryor, sr. VP and GM of Ullo
International, corporate parent of SPG Conferences, converting systems to
the euro is similar to the millennium date change, with dramatic
ramifications for computer systems.
"Once again, the IT world has been presented with another computer-systems
change project that is driven by an external deadline and that requires code
changes to mission-critical systems," he said. "Both our co-sponsors and
attendees have told us that they are dealing with euro conversions often
simultaneously with Y2K changes - and have asked us to provide a forum to
address this issue as well. Fortunately, many of the management and
technical issues share similar characteristics with Y2K projects, where we
are the acknowledged leader in information sharing. With our all-new content
and speakers, the SPG Euro Seminar will help attendees quickly mobilize and
get IT change projects going."

An Intensive One-Day Forum

The SPG Euro Seminar will provide a variety of sessions covering such topics
as transition scenarios, changeover options, pricing policies, customer
issues, partner compliance, and other business drivers that affect IT
activities. The seminar will include panel sessions with users, vendors, and
analysts as well as presentations from leading experts on euro conversion
processes.
Leon Kappelman, Ph.D., conference chairman for the YEAR 2000 Conference &
Expo and co-chair of the Society for Information Management's Year 2000
Working Group, will chair the seminar series. He is responsible for shaping
the seminar content and will work with presenters to share insights into the
systems-conversion process as it applies to the euro.
Capers Jones, chairman of Software Productivity Research (SPR), will deliver
the keynote address, "The Global Economic Impact of the Euro and the Year
2000," highlighting the enormous challenges lying ahead with the two
critical IT change projects happening concurrently. Other speakers include
Roderick Jones, editor of ITelligence EMUTracker, and director, The TRUST
Group and Patrick O'Beirne, managing director, Systems Modeling, Inc.

Euro Vendors Will Have Strong Presence

In response to the similarities of the two issues, many Y2K vendors are also
creating and adapting solutions to address the euro conversion problem.
Those vendors will co-sponsor the Chicago event. They include Cap Gemini,
Micro Focus, MASTECH, Neo Media Technologies, and Peritus Software Services.
Media co-sponsors include Integration Management and Securities Industry
News.

In addition to the Chicago session, SPG Euro Seminars will be held in
conjunction with the YEAR 2000 Conference & Expo series in several U.S.
cities:

--Los Angeles -- Los Angeles Airport Marriott - Sept. 16-18
--San Francisco -- Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport - Sept. 23-25
--Dallas - Wyndham Anatole Hotel - Oct. 20-22
--Boston - World Trade Center - Nov. 9-11
