I do not know about the 80's.

My point was the test is more or less the same what they changed was the scoring scale. The SAT verbal in recent years was about 430 instead of 500 so they added 70 points to a 430 score to recenter it at 500. It is somewhat more complicated than that but not much.

I have a couple of kids getting ready to go to college. So I make it my business to know what is going on with the testors.

Most kids still do not go to college. Some go to trade schools or specialty schools.

(o.t.) In regard to the testing for college bound students, from what I've observed there appears to be a greater emphasis in schools and society to assist students in making it into post high school education. Students now have a variety of tools not available to their predecessors (computers with special programs, internet, books dedicated to the subject, special classes, etc.) I'm not suggesting this is good or bad, just another possibility why scores may be a little higher.
