The 1/4 point spike at the end was the mm attempting to create the illusion that nextel was gathering strength and closed at the high for the day. That 1/4 spike occurred in the last 5 minutes on a few trades when it would have been all but impossible to sneak a market order and sell at the high for the day.
You are absolute right, if the market tanks tomorrow, nextel will not have the strength to keep todays gains.

Ed, I agree today wasn't a short squeeze. No volume and no good news to cause them to panic. Just good ole profit taking before the big event. Tomorrow should be an interesting trading day.
