I didn't like dolls. It always seemed to me that my brother had more interesting toys, and I wanted the same things that he had. He was an older brother. The doll was a present from my grandmother, a lovely, sweet woman who made wonderful meals for us and who liked to read about her investments in the market. And yes, the doll survived the truck - went right under it. I think that's why we cheered, making us slightly less sick, right?

Before everyone makes the assumption that I had no maternal feelings, I had a large collection of stuffed animals and slept with 11 of them, giving each a proper position in the bed, and worrying every night about whether I should give the preferred positions on either side of me to my favorite animals or rotate them so that each had a chance. It's probably a good thing I only had one child, and now we know why I have only one cat.
