Given AMAT's success, it may be that Lam is losing market share in CMP big time.

Or, given recent shift in management policy from the "force" to the "dark side," AMAT could be fudging the numbers. Or, worse, they could be lying - outright!

Since when down-cycles are ending in a matter of 3 months?

Clark,

The only way that these facts could be interpreted as better than this are if:

2) The upturn in AMAT orders was only for a different segment of CMP than Lam supplies.

AMAT's Mirra CMP tool polishes;
The On-trak CMP tool cleans.

I believe that with last quarter's products, LRCX complements AMAT's tool. This may no longer be true going forward.

... or I may just misunderstand who does what. ;-)

Ian.
