Vin, I don't follow LARS and can't help you there.

Do you feel that ASND would have to guide analysts upwards in their future earnings for us to get to 60 or do you believe that ASND could reach 60 without the upward guidance?

Interesting question. Since 9/97, Mory/Ashby have been conservative with the analysts and have been managing earnings. I've been wondering lately about what they will do come 9-10/98. If ASND in fact doesn't want to be taken out by LU, it would seem like the perfect time to provide upward guidance to analysts and boost the share price to make it more expensive for LU.

The latest Bernstein report (posted on this thread) had a $1.76 FY99 estimate. By year-end, I think the analyst consensus will be about this level. As I posted a couple months ago, I believe ASND's share price will be $60-65 in mid-1/99 after earnings. The 3 recent analyst reports provide more than enough ammunition, and I think the story will just get better and better. The data network build-out is in its infancy, and ASND is well positioned.

At this point, my main question is why the heck isn't ASND making any acquisitions? CSCO, LU, NT and even BAY and CS recently have made numerous acquisitions. Does anyone have a theory? I'm not pushing for an acquisition per se. I just don't get it. It seems like a very strong argument that ASND is positioning itself to be acquired. djane

P.S. I return to my humble "article" sweeper nature and stop playing unqualified analyst
