If it wasn't for Microsoft and the economic model of the Microsofts, Intel's and Cisco's of the world, you would still be looking at a green CRT wondering how to get an extra 32K of memory out of you computer. The computer of course would of been manufactured entirely by some Asian competitor.

This is such an ignorant statement, please explain.

Moore's Law is the result of companies like Applied Materials and the lithography companies not drug dealers.

Ha! The company that banished the Green Screen was Apple when they released the Macintosh. If it wasn't for Microsoft, I would still be using a Mac. Your assertion that without Microsoft there wouldn't be innovation is contradicted by the fact that Microsoft has produced none of the major innovations of the last 2 decades, and has managed to squash many of the companies that did produce them, possibly preventing major innovations that would have occured.

Ever hear of the auto, telecommunications, oil, aerospace, consumer electronics industries? The IBM PC has always been last year's technology, even the Apple II had color before the PC. It is great that the PC adds another market for semiconductors but it is by far not THE market. Fierce competition drove the hardware prices down; software rode the wave.

Cheers,

Norm
