Comments Finally got to go through about 5 magazines I had collected this week to review products, systems, reports, etc ad nauseum. Five things stick out. A 16 page full color ad in InfoWorld for IBM/lotus eSuite. Anyone use this? All the reviews over Steve jobs, the new Powerbooks ($1.7 million online sales the first day it came out - makes my 6 month old Powerbook look only like a fast PC...don't think I can rationalize that $5k price though), the iMac and the new G3 systems. The market hype is what is imporatnt though. I expect AAPL to start climbing towards the next earning day. Internet phone comparisons, popularity (future father in law raved about it the other night - and he is a retired capt. in the Mich State Police - and everyone of his buddies is using it. Anytime the mainstream retirees start using something to chat and call the kids/grandkids, its time to sell the telecons and buy some of that stock! Inter/Intra/Extranet video conferencing...now I've seen most of the people I work with at other locations, so not sure what the draw is here. But then Corporate TV has been the dream of a lot of network admins I've known...maybe I should buy stock in the Men's Suit Warehouse for when they dressup to go on quickcams...At any rate, the players are - Connectix, DigitalVision, Intel, Kodak, SiliconVision, VideoLabs, Vista Imaging and Winnov - Kodak seems the leader, with Silicon vision's a close second. "Next generation HandHelds" - these things are starting to come out with video cameras. Players are Sharp, Casio, LG Electronics, COMPAQ, NEC, and Phillips. Only Sharp and NEC are color though, and the leader looks to be NEC. Grayscale leader (barely) is LG Elec. Only people I've seen with them are the electronically leashed (cell phone, pager, probably a GPS on their bicycles) software and copier salespeople I never buy anything from. If they ever make Windows CE useful and lower the price to less than what you can get a used 133 MHz laptop for nowadays, it might take off. Besides, the folks that made leater holders for all those planners need a new market... I think I better go to bed. lastshadow
