I spoke with DSSI awhile back. the technology is complementry, Lucent worked on transmission via cable but did not get cable co. to agree on reasonable rate then they did it with telephone transmission,same stroy from local phone. gave up dssi came in with a deal on cellular phone with Bell Atlantic. The chip can transmit info such that if you turn on any light switch they can tell what it is. May be too good issue of privacy. but great if you also want to have alarm in house , and capacity to connect to other services as well.That was lucent, Comverge is focusing on supply part. Lucent was very broad utilization. Israeli part transmission over powerline. I think that is not allowed in usa to transmit data over powerline, but I do not know for sure.
