Oh, Melinda, I know exactly what you mean! Everything we owned was used...I suppose now with our knowledge and experience we would react just like our mothers---"You got that mattress WHERE??? Are you sure it doesn't have lice?"
But we saw different things...took pleasure in different moments. And when I read what you wrote, the truth of it really hit me.
I remember being in grad school and we had planted a garden and I was out in the middle of it with a shaker of garlic salt eating warm tomatoes right off the vine. And I have never tasted anything that good since...and we watched Nixon resign on our little black and white TV...and we almost drowned when our water bed sprang a leak, because we were too poor to afford a protective cover or a heater for it.
It was a REAL water bed-not this wimpy crap.
AH-but did you have a shag rug????

Your room sounded like ours in SoCal back then. Except at the time, we all had ash trays and clips too.
