It simply makes your next trip to the site that little bit more friendly to you. Cookies are simply little dabs of data that sit on your hard drive and make your life (and the web site's) slightly easier. If you never revisit that site the cookie will expire and nothing more will ever happen. Are you somehow thinking that a cookie is a "virus?"
