bgg: your premise that Hop Sing is a BAY employee is faulty, therefore all your conclusions are faulty. You could have avoided casting aspersions by checking past posts. I would have thought that interested persons would welcome field reports or opinions from people who are not insiders but who are knowledgeable about BAY sales. With respect to the "investigative journalism" - BAY has consistently told journalists that it wishes to remain independent. Having stated a policy most companies will then offer no comment to questions on specific rumours. A lot of shares have been dumped recently by people who obviously consider that they have benefited from the rumours and from the press reports of the rumours. It goes without saying that management is obliged to maximise shareholder values and to listen to approaches from potential acquirers or merger partners. It is also is obliged to put any proper offer to shareholders. I find it very unlikely that Nortel or any company would wish to confirm an interest in acquiring BAY and therefore drive up the price they would have to pay. I think a lot of recent journalism has been "imaginative". For similar reasons, press conferences or releases announced several days in advance, are hardly likely to be the harbingers of buy-outs. I am increasingly dissuaded that LU will be the acquirer. Indeed, LU might, through other acquisitions, weaken its current relationship with BAY and the BAY share price is very vulnerable to such a move. I can imagine Nortel being interested but think it more likely that BAY would attract a serious price from non-North American companies seeking BAY's installed base in North America. However, I also think it is very possible that BAY will not receive an acceptable offer and be forced into strategic alliances to keep its head above water. Victor

Dear bgg - I ve tried to find a post in which Hop Sing has identified himself as a BAY employee but couldn't. Will you please let the thread know how you have come to draw that conclusion? Thanks I mean, if you ve right, certainly Hop should be careful in making statements, even if they are personal observations. However, such accusations, even if it is an allusion, are serious matter. It is quite obvious that Hop has been wrong before, so I am not here to defend his observations. Or anyone else for that matter. However, statements like "I hope so-and-so is not such-and-such" is really a habitual way in our [political] society to cast doubt in the audience's mind, I ve seen it everyday when I open the newspaper, it is not exactly I expect to find in a congenial thread on SI Sorry if my words have offended you, but JMHO rgds Bosco

On both accounts --- you are dead wrong. But if I were an employee you are implying that I am close to the top of the ladder - I assume that is where this information exists. Material comments? Is that how you define opinions? While I am flattered by your comments and really wish I were at the top of Bay networks, unfortunately I must disappoint you. The comments I make are based on information from nobody at Bay Networks. They are strictly MHO. Further, there should be a history off my comments for your reading pleasure. More right than wrong but you are welcome to just skip right over my posts in total disregard. I will not be offended.As for last quarter I suggest you do your reading again. In the meantime, for which police do you work?
