ERICSSON SIGNS GSM EXPANSION CONTRACT WITH MTN IN SOUTH AFRICA

Ericsson has signed a framework agreement with Mobile Telephone
Networks (MTN) for the further expansion of their GSM network in
South Africa. The agreement is valued at USD 200 million
(SEK 1,520 million) and includes the supply of switching, radio base
stations, new service features and Intelligent Network services
including PrePaid services.

"With this new agreement, which will cover the next phase of network
roll-out, MTN will continue to expand its network coverage, increase
its capacity and also further its intention to remain South Africa's
number one quality network," says Karel Pienaar, MTN's Network Group
Executive. "This agreement certainly manifests MTN's confidence in
the South African telecommunications market as well as our
conviction that choosing one supplier, Ericsson, enhances the MTN
product offering to the South African community."

Africa, commented the order: "Ericsson is proud to retain the
confidence of MTN, a progressively innovative operator of
international reputation. The new agreement further accentuates the
MTN-Ericsson partnership, where the synergies of MTN as a successful
international operator and Ericsson as the world leading telecom
supplier are fully utilized."

Ericsson South Africa has recently formed a Strategic Partnership
Alliance with the South African Department of Trade and Industry to
enable it to take a further proactive approach in fulfilling it's
industrial participation requirements. This will further strengthen
Ericsson's long-term engagement in terms of research and
development, local production, technology transfer and competence
development.

including manufacturing of Power and Microwave equipment, a Network
Design Center and an Application Development Center offering design
and development of Intelligent Networks and GSM Value Added
Services.
