Hi Rich,

If your options are in the money, and you are still holding them the week before they expire. TRADE THEM!!!! You should be able to get the amount they are above the strike price, plus a little bit of premium. Why hold them until you don't have any options left on your options? Also, American style options can be exercised at any time before expiration. Options are NOT a buy and hold play. Take profits/cut losses ASAP. Time is your enemy.

Well, actually your in the money options don't exactly go poof.

Your broker steals the profit.
